Homogenous cool at JW Anderson

Born in Northern Island in 1984, Jonathan William Anderson originally wanted to peruse a career in acting. After discovering a love for costume design, Jonanthan enrolled in the London College of Design to study menswear and four years later, in June 2012, won funding from the Topshop sponsored NUGEN scheme to showcase a collection at London Fashion Week that September. With the world's fashion eyes on his collection, JW Anderson's name was firmily on the map and his new band of celebrity followers in Alexa Chung, Rihanna, Oixie Geldof and Rita Ora didn't hurt his brand's image either.

'It's always been about men borrowing women's clothes, women borrowing men's clothes' and his blurring of the lines between dressing for sexes runs solid in his SS14 collection. Using precise shapes rather than cuts to dress the female form, the collection which  Jonathan described as 'avant-bland' has a distinct Japanese feel with origami inspired pieces and skillfully cut, unexpected fabric squares shaping the garments. Monochrome featured strongly and some of the Menswear collection could just as easily sit nicely in my wardrobe. JW Anderson stands out from the fash crowd with a sharp collection like this. I am excited to see how this collection will be worn by the brand's followers & translate to the streets.

Trust Me, I'm a Doctor

Whether I'm having a lazy day or just don't feel like dressing up (queue every Saturday & Sunday), my go-to footwear brand outside of Converse are Dr. Martens. Perceived in my 90's school days as only for goths, rockers and all the cool kids, Docs have become the Madonna of the footwear market. Not only have they survived comeback after comeback, the boots that originated from World War II have appeared, this season, in the fashion pages of some of the top fashion bibles in the globe. This month's Vogue (below) gives my trusted Docs quite a demure face-lift.
In 2012, the British label, was announced as being the eight fastest growing British company. We salute the Griggs family for turning Dr. Martens around from near bankruptcy in 2003 with their 'vintage line' to a new level of success and for saving our toes and providing love & comfort for our tired feet xo

Pale really is the New Black

Working in the Irish fashion industry for 15 years now, I come across fake tan horror stories on a regular basis. It is my one pet hate. I get depressed when I see beautiful young models arrive to shows with tan marks and their hands and faces two shades lighter than the rest of their bodies. I don't mind when tan is done right and looks natural. But I wonder what in modern culture and media has made us so uncomfortable in the skin we were born? The most beautiful girls are the ones who are comfortable in their own, natural skin (easier said than done as a female I know).  Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model finalist Sarah Kennedy this year as a great example of a confident, natural beauty and Kellie Forde the year before was so elegantly charming in her porcelain skin.  Grace Grey below is a London based model who works quite a bit with us in Ireland. I love her fresh look and pale skin and how she is effortlessly beautiful in her own natural tone.
I'm going to have to get some tips from her.....and share them with the young tanorexic's!

Casual cool

I have always loved Autumn fashion as I am Irish, so my wardrobe is full of cosy layers, jackets and boots. Summer clothes are a luxury that I keep in a box at the top of my wardrobe & only take down to update at the rare sign of sunshine during Sumner months, or if off on a trip to warmer climates.  I was born in Autumn too so maybe it's written in my stars that I feel most comfortable this time of year.  Here is a snippet of my AW inspiration board for this season xo

SS14 Flower Power at Mary Katrantzou

London based Greek designer Mary Katrantzou has us so excited about SS14 with her punchy, floral prints and gorgeous new shoe collection. She never fails to disappoint adding gusto and character to the runway and her feminine London Fashion Week SS14 collection was no exception. We may be pulling on our chunky jumpers and boots this morning but this beautiful collection has us excited about SS already xo

Michael Kors @ NYFW

Not only did Michael Kors give his model army one of his gorgeous handbags each after they walked in his fashion week show but he had this cute inspiration board backstage too. I think this should be our new daily mantra hung on our wardrobe doors!

Fashion Statement or Clever PR?

So Rihanna has posted a pic on Instagram thanking Vivienne Westwood for her new gift... a clutch with a giant neon penis on the front.

I wore Vivienne Westwood shoes for my wedding but somehow think that this clutch wouldn't have gone down too well in the church!
