A Hair Revolution

For so many years, hair company advertising campaigns have led us to believe that lather and tropical smelling shampoos equal clean, beautiful hair. What causes shampoo to lather? Detergent. Detergent that you wash your harshly stained clothes with. Chemical overload that strips colour and natural health from hair, resulting in us having to then overload on conditioner, masks and treatments to repair the regular damage we impose on our luscious locks.

Some of the top brands in the world are now revolutionising how we wash our hair, taking out the detergent chemical and producing much milder cleansing oils and balms that both wash and treat our hair in one. Shu Uemura, Kerastase have all introduced gentle cleansing and most recently, Bumble and Bumble founder Michael Gordon launched 'Purely Perfect' saying 'hair is a very delicate fabric, so by not putting detergent in it, you get better results'.

Another of my favourite brands JOICO have brought out Color Endure. Sulfate-free Color Endure keeps color true to hue with a triple-threat Multi-spectrum Defense Complex,TM a mega complex of fade-defying Green Tea, antioxidants and UV protectors that fight both the physical and environmental factors that can cause fading and tonal change.

U Magazine's Irish Colourist of the Year, Sabrina Hill, owner of Kopper Hair says ''When you’ve spent good money on a first-rate color service (we know full well those numbers are nothing to sneeze at), then doesn’t it make sense to go the distance and bring home a product that protects your investment?''  Sabrina says that redheads – the hardest hit in the fade department – love the fact that it maintains their scarlet hue by a full 88%. (That’s not a number to sneeze at, either.)
Their inside secret: Multi-Spectrum Defense Complex – rich in Green Tea, Antioxidants, and UV protectors – lends strength, manageability, softness, and shine; while fighting the big fade-out… even after a full 18 washes and Bio-Advanced Peptide Complex aids in reconstruction.

Less chemicals, healthier hair? It all sounds so perfect.......but will I miss the mental satisfaction from a lifetime of lather? I hope not, I'm going to treat my locks as I treat my cashmere from now on!

My Maternity Style Tips in WOW

Tonight, I share some of my Maternity Style Tips for dressing your bump in the WOW supplement with the Evening Echo. For those of you outside of our city, here is the coverage. I hope you like my first Fashion Editorial! E xo

Vegas Baby

I had the pleasure of helping my good friend, singer Jean Elliott-Murphy style herself for her Vegas Divas 'One Night Only' MA concert this week. It was one of the most spectacular stage performances and musical productions I have seen in a long while. Our friend, makeup artist Clare Leamy did Jean's makeup on the night and we chose all of Jean's dresses (as well as the backing singers white and gold dresses) from my partner-in-crime, Vivienne's boutique The Dress Bar. For a gig of this scale, only the most glamorous gowns would suit so we spent a Saturday morning playing dress up at The Dress Bar trying on all the gorgeous evening dresses.

Jean is a former You're A Star finalist (RTE) 2004 and a well-known performer and vocal coach. She is currently studying for an MA in pop vocal performance (the first to do so in CSM).  Her spectacular concert hosted a ‘Vegas’ theme and featured classics from some of the World's best divas who have graced the Vegas stage. Beginning with a Motown/Soul section and moving right up to the present day the concert was a truly great musical night out and fully of Vegas glamour.

Jean's live band included sax, trumpet, strings, piano, drums - the full Vegas treatment! The band was made up of some of the best local musicians with musical direction by Ronan Holohan. It also featured dancers from Cork Arts Studio with choreography by Aileen Coffey. MC on the night was well-known Cork performer, Trevor Ryan, Director of the Montfort College of Performing Arts.

Well done on such an amazing performance Jean! <3

One Wedding and a Taoiseach Visit

Yesterday, I worked on an event at VMware, Ballincollig where we hosted An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny. I wore this dress from Beautiful Bumps which was a lifesaver as nothing from my regular wardrobe is fitting me now at 32 weeks. It was comfy but still corporate enough for a visit of the leader of the Irish Government. The Taoiseach even asked me about my bump and told me about his 19 year old son who was born on my due date which was lovely. After that, I headed to my beautiful cousin Suzanne's wedding in Limerick afterwards and changed into this vintage maternity dress from Miss Daisy Blue. More info on these plus my Maternity Styling Tips in next Wednesday's WOW Supplement with the Evening Echo xo

With my beautiful cousin Suzanne on her big day!

So here are the two dresses I chose for yesterday's two events together:
