Pre Show Sunday Brunching

The new fashion season is in full swing and today our agency had a Wedding Fare at the Imperial Hotel, hosted by TV3 Xpose presenter Lisa Cannon. Before I headed backstage to help produce the show, I went for brunch with Timmy and Erin in Gulpd, a cafe in town that is onto a beautiful theatre and listed church. They do really tasty food and coffee and have a DJ playing soulful jazz and blues for Sunday Brunch. It was the perfect start to the day. Visit our model agency Facebook page here for pictures from the fashion show. Hope you all had a nice, chilled out Sunday!

Silky Signature Blowdry

I arrived at Irish Award Winning Salon, Kopper Hair, literally hiding behind my camera as you can see. My hair was like a scarecrow's wig and I was in need of some serious hair TLC.  Pregnancy isn't kind to a woman's hair, I shed lots of hair after Erin's birth and my hair became weak and cracked. I heard about the Alfaparf Signature Blowdry and with no 'me' time these days to style my hair at home, I decided to give this frizz free blowdry treatment a go as it suits all hair types.

Stylist, Yvonne, met me on arrival for a consultation about ridding my locks of their yellow hues and turning my blonde shades into a more creamier look. She had me at hello!
While I enjoyed a cuppa without a baby crying out for me and read magazines to switch off, Yvonne set about putting in my new creamy colour.

Once the colour had taken and was shampooed out, I was sat back at the chair and Yvonne began the surprisingly quick (at only 30minutes) Signature Blowdry. She popped a protective visor over my eyes, which was a lovely touch. Although the treatment is 100% safe, has no scary parabens, sulphates or formaldehyde, I always seem to leave salons tasting strong products that are sprayed so heavily they make their way down to my face, so the visor was a great little touch to avoid that. And we had a good giggle at the cut of me with the visor on too!

Step one was a spray-in Moulding Fluid which removes any frizz, doesn't break sulphur bonds of the hair and improves the overall condition of your hair. This took only 10 minutes to spritz and brush through my hair. Then came Step 2, the Sealer which creates an incredible shine and softens the hair. This step seals the hair cuticle before it is dried. Step 3 was to seal the treatment in by running over the full dry head with a straighteners. Although my hair was sealed straight, I like a little wave in my hair, so Yvonne was able to gently curl the ends to my liking. The full treatment only took about 30 minutes and my hair will remain frizz free for up to 8 weeks, making my mop far more manageable on a day-to-day basis, which suits me with a demanding 6 month old baby. I will be returning for a top up and will report on how this has worked for my hair overall. On the way out, I invested in some sulphate free, formaldehyde free Alfaparf shampoo, conditioner and masks to ensure I maintain the blow dry and get the best out of it. I am so happy with how it turned out, I hope you like it too!

Thank you to U Magazine's Colourist of the Year Sabrina Hill for always educating me about new hair treatments to keep my tresses in the best possible condition. You can follow the Kopper team and get in touch with them on Facebook here. I boldly left some yummy muffins with the team, they were mini muffins, which made it totally acceptable to eat muffins in January. And I caught Martina and Sabrina below breaking their January fast ;-)

What to Wear to a Casting

I have modelled for 18 years and have been an agent for 10 years and the most frequently question I get asked is 'What should I wear to a Casting?'. The key to impressing at a casting is to relax, be yourself and KEEP IT SIMPLE.

This means no fake tan (which Irish girls unfortunately wear too much of), little or no makeup, hair down and freshly washed, ready to pop it up in a ponytail or top knot if asked and well fitting jeans paired with a plain tshirt. No logos, no bright colours or patterns. Basically, dress so that all the agent sees is you and not loud clothing, bad makeup or tan lines.

Why? Agents want to see you at your most natural, like a blank canvas, so that they can look for the potential that their photographers, bookers, brands and clients need in a model. Natural and fresh faced is key.

Here are some of today's most successful models in their casting polaroids and how natural they look, some almost  unrecognisable (like myself without makeup!) but all look super fresh faced.

Clothes for a casting call do not need to be expensive, see below picture. As well as good eye contact and professionalism, a stellar walk is crucial at a model casting so don't buy new sky-scraper shoes that you will wobble like Bambi in. I always walk better with a bit of a heel and stand with better posture, so a comfortable court shoe is ideal but so equally would a pair of flat boots. Once you can strut your stuff confidently and gracefully, that's all that matters.  Finally, read what the requirements of the casting are. Ensure you are within the correct age, height and size range being advertised. If you have any questions on attending a casting, feel free to drop me an email anytime at xo

New Fashion Icons

Following on from my below post earlier this week that luxury French fashion house Celine chose American author Joan Didion to front their new campaign, Hedi Slimane at Saint Laurent has photographed my favourite singer Joni Mitchell at her Bel Air home for their new campaign wearing a tunic from the brand's Folk collection. As a model agent for models of all ages, I am warmed to see the fashion world embrace female icons of all ages and sizes to front their SS15 campaigns. It has been a long time coming!

SS15 at COS

Fresh and light, the SS15 collection from COS is a joy to the sartorial eye.  COS has always been my favourite label for functional dressing, clean lines and a taste of high fashion and high quality at purse friendly prices to suit my budget. Unlike labels that churn out season trend after trend, COS maintains its own strong identity with strong pieces that can be easily reworked and reworn to suit any season. I attended the SS15 pre launch in Dublin before Christmas and have been eagerly awaiting this beautiful collection since.

Launching in the UK on London's Regent Street in 2007, the brand now boasts 103 stores across 21 countries. Part of the H&M group, COS prices start off where H&M's end. This allows the brand to deliver design-led, high quality product through smaller-scale individually designed boutique stores with great customer service. The brand adopts H&M's strong ethical values following H&M's code of conduct and do not sell real fur, only using leather derived from animals that have been bred for meat production. COS' interior id designed by noted architect William Russell, whose retail pedigree includes store design for Alexander McQueen.

I was lucky enough to browse the new collection at the Wicklow Street Store in Dublin, which will hit stores soon and I have been saving my pennies, turning a blind eye to the high street sales since. There is an air of sportiness to this collection, all a nod to the functional feel of COS but with a twist of new suggestions for dressing with features of fragmented typography. Menswear and accessories hit the spot with city bags and Derby sneakers for men and minimal leather strap sandals and typography element jewellery for women. As a model agent, I adore their no-fuss campaigns with models appearing merely as still mannequins, letting the garments do the talking.  Don't waste your hard earned bucks on too many sale splurges this month, the new COS SS15 will be worth the wait and your new COS pieces will work hard in your wardrobe for many seasons to come.

Didion for Celine

The original cool girl at the cutting edge of international fashion and more notably, literary royalty, Joan Didion has been announced as the face of the new Celine Spring campaign. The 80 year old notoriously reclusive writer has been featured in a wave of media of late with her memoir book Blue Nights read onstage by Vanessa Redgrave. The campaign shot is by Jergen Teller and I must say, I am delighted to see the French luxury label  choose such a successful, beautiful woman to front the brand this season.

Lusting for Spring Style

Before the sales are over, I am opening new boards on my Pinterest page to gather some inspiration for Spring. I love Spring's longer daylight hours where everything seems brighter and how we seem to come out of hibernation, heading out for walks in the evening for girlie chats. And of course, I love introducing new colour palettes for our wardrobes. Here are some of my pins on the new mood board. Be sure to follow my Pinterest account here.

An Unwritten Year

The sky is blue, sun shining and a new year has begun. I love living here in Cork, as regardless of which direction I drive, I can be on a beach within 20 minutes. We went for a walk to clear the Christmas cobwebs and talk about our hopes, resolutions and wishes for 2015. I feel refreshed and ready for the year ahead and I hope you do too. Now 2015, lets be having you!
