Hosting UCC's Next Top Model

I MC'd the finale of UCC's Next Top Model last Thursday night at The Secret Garden. It was one of those nights where you don't plan an outfit, plan to be home early and it turned out to be such a great fashion show with a sold out audience (over 200 people!), great judges, gorgeous collections styled by Natasha Crowley at Opera Lane, a big panel of the most stylish judges in the city. I had so much fun that I didn't get home until 3am! Congrats to Irtaza & Aoife who won, our new model recruits. And well done to the UCC Fashion Society on such a great week xo

My dress and coat are Topshop and my 60's inspired hair bow is from H&M
P.s. How amazing does our judge Candy Warhol look and she made this outfit below herself!

Model Scout

As a model agent for over ten years, I am always on the look out for a new, fresh and interesting face. I always veer towards scouting girls that guys don't necessarily find 'hot'. Often the girls who come to us thinking they have model potential are cute girls but not model material and the girls I approach who are pale, interesting, often geeky or awkward and are too shy to even think about being a model - these are the best 'finds' in the modelling world for me. We held a casting today and Emily Rebekah took some shots of the hopefuls who attended. We found some amazing young new talent that I probably won't sleep tonight as I am so excited about them working for us. And Emily Rebekah introduced us to her friend, stylist and gorgeous drag queen Evin so we are even more excited about working on new projects with him. This week I am MC'ing the final show of UCC's Next Top Model, Viv and myself have been invited to guest speak at a UCC Girlboss Seminar with Author Louise O'Neill and we are producing Lorraine Keane's 'Keane On Style' in Dublin. Wishing you all an equally busy and productive week xo

Street Style Challenge

I decided to include a Street Style Challenge as part of the UCC's Next Top Model competition and challenge the finalists to turn up for me to shoot them in a street style look that best represents their own personal style. I managed to shoot the students before it poured raining today and they really surprised me how confident and able they were in front of the camera. Here are the images, unedited. I have chosen the first finalist below as today's challenge winner, I just loved her overall look and felt her personality and attitude shine out through her style. Congratulations Kafayat!! xo

Digital Styling and UCC's Next Top Model Shoot

I had a busy Sunday with Viv today. I organised a full day shoot for our existing models to shoot digital polaroids to send to our contacts at UK & US agencies. So I scrope the ice off my car and popped in to Emily Rebekah's new studio in the city centre first thing to ensure the models didn't turn up with makeup or fake tan and to ensure their styling was simple, minimalistic and au natural. A true model is one that is comfortable in their own skin and not afraid to embrace their uniqueness, whether pale or dark.  So I am excited to see the results when they are processed. We have another shoot there next week so it will be great for the models to have fresh digitals to start the new year.

Myself and Vivienne are producing and doing PR for UCC's Next Top Model this year again. We used run the competition when it first began many years ago and we did the first shoot in the comp today. Our go-to mens stylist Finbarr Hurley blew us away with the styling he chose for the men. And what about his own initialled Burberry cape pictured below - major style envy!! The models were just brilliant. It was freezing cold and they never complained.  Viv and myself love working with new models as we get to mentor them from the get-go and ensure no bad habits creep in. The girls looked so pretty in their dresses from Phoenix V and Miss Daisy Blue and Hope Hickey, model and UCC Fashion Society member, did an amazing job co-ordinating the day. I have included some behind-the-scenes pictures below and will share the professional ones with you later this month.

When you love what you do, it's not work at all! Hanging out with friends all day, shooting creative work is simply good for the soul. xo

January dressing

I promised more posts about January styling on a budget so I had to feature one of my favourite wardrobe staples - a plaid shirt. This is a soft navy one that I picked up in Primark/Penneys for only €13. Top knot, shirt and jeans - this is my favourite off duty look xo

Our special evening being honoured at City Hall

2016 has gotten off to the BEST start that Vivienne & I could ever have imagined. We were honoured at City Hall last night for our contribution and work growing and promoting the local fashion industry for the last decade and through establishing MSL Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Cork.  Our closest family and friends in business came along to the Lord Mayor's Chambers and we were genuinely blown away by the love and support we received at the reception. It was by far our proudest day since Lockdown began ten years ago.

Cork Fashion Week is the brainchild of Vivienne & I, who have grown the week of events into a spectacular showcase of local talent and business that is viewed online by millions across the World each year as well as on national television and attracts some of the most well known faces in fashion and media to Cork. MSL Mercedes-Benz came on board three years ago and since partnering with the high end brand synonymous with style and quality, the week has become the most successful and talked about fashion week in the country, with visitors flocking to Cork from all over Ireland each Autumn for it.

Speaking at the reception last night that was attended by over forty people, Pat Walker, our model and assistant event producer for Cork Fashion Week remarked from City Hall ''these two girls have changed the face of fashion in Cork for the better providing opportunities for everyone from makeup artists to hairstylists and designers to name but a few. They have linked businesses throughout the city and county and put Cork on the map nationally and internationally as a now highly regarded fashion city to rival any of the other fashion weeks in Milan, London, Paris or NY.''

Deputy Lord Mayor Mick Nugent gave us a lovely tribute for our dedication and professionalism and said Cork city was very fortunate to have such hard working young entrepreneurs working to grow the fashion industry in Cork and put it on the map. We announced our new Lockdown Fashion PR division at the City Hall event. To evolve with the times, we have opened a wing at the business to run online digital media for any brands, businesses or people working in fashion. Social Media has become a part of our everyday lives, regardless of age or background, so using our decade of fashion experience coupled with our strong fashion contacts in Ireland, we are now offering services to completely run your social media - Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat - to ensure your brand looks current, attracts the right market and contributes to your business growth.

Thanks to local media for all of their coverage today. I am on the radio tonight to talk about last night so tune into Dave Mac on RedFM if you are near a radio. Thanks to Pat Walker for nominating us and supporting us, her encouragement and the City Hall reception has boosted our spirits so much for the year ahead. And to all our family, friends, models and amazing clients without whom we would be unable to live out our dreams for Lockdown and Fashion Week xo

Lots more pics to come this week from the night but here are a small few for now:

January Style on a Budget

This month my blog with mirror my resolutions to live a more simple life. Simple wardrobe, simple styling and no clutter will lead to a clear mind and lots of time for productivity. I have a busy month ahead attacking the many goals I have set for 2016 personally for my family, at Lockdown Models & Fashion PR and Educogym, along with producing Lorraine Keane's Dublin show with Viv, so I started with a huge declutter at home today and feel ready to take on the world now. This week myself and Vivienne will be honoured for a decade of our contribution to the local fashion industry by the Lord Mayor at City Hall. I feel very grateful to be doing what I love with people I love. Here's to a productive week ahead for us all. As it's January and our wardrobe budgets are all a little tight, I will do some posts on how to shop new looks on a budget. This scarf, jacket, jumper and glasses are all new stock at Primark. A great day look all for under €50!
